Advancing Polar Science. Empowering Future Researchers

Creating pathways for early-career scientists in the Arctic and Antarctic and Beyond

What Is POLAR?

A global initiative built to support science at Earth’s coldest frontiers

POLAR: (Polar Operations & Logistics Advancing Research) is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to fund, create, and maintain an international pathway for early-career researchers and scientists conducting scientific work in the polar regions.

Through fundraising from both the private and public sectors, POLAR aims to create its own science expeditions while also establishing a transparent review process to accept research proposals from the global scientific community.

Why the Poles Matter to the Planet?

A global initiative built to support science at Earth’s coldest frontiers

The Arctic and Antarctic play a critical role in regulating Earth’s climate, sea levels, and ecosystems. Changes occurring in these regions are often the earliest indicators of global environmental shifts.

By enabling scientific research in the polar regions, POLAR helps generate the data needed to better understand climate systems, ice dynamics, and long-term planetary health.

Our Mission

Removing barriers for the next generation of polar scientists

POLAR’s mission is to create research opportunities for early-career scientists by designing and providing operational and logistical support for science expeditions in the polar regions.

We focus on making polar research more accessible by supporting expedition planning, field operations, and infrastructure — allowing researchers to focus on science.

Our Vision

At POLAR, our vision is to create pathways and empower future researchers to understand and protect the polar regions through continued science analysis.

A Collective Operation

POLAR is a leader in providing alternative avenues for PhD students, post docs and career scientists to conduct research in the Arctic and Antarctic.

Founding members include ice core/hot water drillers and scientists, who have collectively spent over 50 seasons in the polar regions, some dedicating their entire careers to better understanding the coldest places on the planet.

Our Core Initiatives

Building sustainable pathways for polar research.
